Teachers Union Directs Members to Boycott New Reporting System

The Teachers Union has instructed its members not to report lesson topics in the Meshov system when forced to choose from a closed list, according to a letter sent by Shlomo Hadad, chairman of the professional department. If the system requires teachers to select a topic from a predefined list based on the pedagogical program, they are to avoid reporting in Meshov and instead document the topic in their physical journals. Teachers are still required to report freely if the system allows for open-ended input.

This directive follows a change in the reporting method within Meshov, which was implemented at the start of the current academic year. Previously, teachers could freely report lesson subjects. The new format mandates selection from a predetermined list for some cases and also requires reporting on the teaching method.

The Teachers Union asserts that this change was implemented unilaterally and without their consent, creating unnecessary difficulties and disrupting the established reporting process. They emphasize that members should only follow the union's directives.

Some teachers have expressed concerns that the new system represents increased oversight and a lack of trust from the Ministry of Education, potentially leading to a silencing mechanism. The Ministry of Education, however, previously dismissed these claims, stating the update was a technological refinement to simplify and standardize reporting by assigning a uniform code to each subject within the learning framework.

The Ministry of Education has not yet responded to the Teachers Union's latest directive. Their response will be published upon receipt.
