Forensic Investigator Recounts Harrowing Scenes, Including Oct. 7 Atrocities

Senior Superintendent Uzi Negar, head of the forensic identification unit for the Coastal District of Israel's police, has spoken about the profound psychological toll of his nearly 30-year career, particularly his experiences in the aftermath of the October 7th Hamas attacks. This experience led to severe psychological distress for many investigators, with eight leaving the unit due to post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite the immense personal cost, Negar is focused on rebuilding the unit and training a new generation of forensic experts, emphasizing that their work is a mission to uncover the truth and provide closure for families, even when dealing with the darkest aspects of human behavior.
