Shas Spiritual Leader Bans Voting for Temple Mount Visitors
The spiritual leader of the Shas party and Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, on Thursday urged followers not to vote for individuals who do not fear God or who ascend to the Temple Mount, stating that such actions are forbidden by Jewish law. Speaking at a rally in Acre Stadium, Yosef specifically criticized Itamar Ben-Gvir, head of the Otzma Yehudit party, without naming him directly, implying he was unfit for office.
Yosef declared that votes should only be cast for those who fear God and follow the path of the Torah, explicitly endorsing the Shas party and its leader, Rabbi Aryeh Deri. The Shas party list, finalized two weeks prior, includes Deri, Yinon Azulai, Michael Malchieli, and Yoav Ben-Tzur.
Additionally, Rabbi Yosef launched a strong attack the previous night against the Supreme Court and the Attorney General's decision not to intervene in the cancellation of state funding for his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's, memorial event due to its proximity to elections.
