Israel Police Extends Contract for Speed Cameras Amid System Upgrade Delays
The Israeli Police have extended their contract with Skai Technologies and Security Systems for the maintenance of A3 speed and red-light cameras until June 2029. The non-competitive deal is worth 15 million shekels and covers the creation, maintenance, and operation of the existing camera system.
This extension was necessitated by delays in the rollout of a new, advanced camera system capable of measuring average vehicle speed over longer road stretches. This upgraded system was initially expected to be operational this year but has not yet been widely deployed.
The police have announced a tender for the new system, but the cameras have not been installed on a large scale. The contract with Skai Technologies was awarded without a tender because the company is the sole entity possessing the required official license and certification from the Dutch camera manufacturer, GATSO, meeting the police's specific criteria.
