Spanish outlet Marca reports that Real Madrid is preparing for major roster changes after a disappointing domestic season and a surprise run to the EuroLeague final. The club was eliminated by Tenerife in the Spanish league quarterfinals, and on Friday there was already a major shake-up in management, with sporting director and club legend Sergio Rodriguez leaving and another legend, Rudy Fernandez, expected to replace him.
According to the report, several players are already being treated internally as departures, including David Kramer, Chuma Okeke, Trey Lyles, who has also been linked with Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Mario Hezonja. The Hezonja situation is described as especially surprising. The Croatian forward is 31 and 2.06 meters tall, and his contract runs until 2029, but only with an NBA exit clause.
Marca says there is a very high probability Hezonja is on his way out of the club, and that Real is already working in the market to find a replacement for him. In addition to Hapoel Tel Aviv, Dubai has also been mentioned as a possible destination for the player.
Hezonja has been one of the EuroLeague’s leading forwards in recent years. Last season he averaged 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in European competition, and in the Spanish league regular season he posted 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
