Spanish outlet Marca reports that Real Madrid is preparing for a possible summer overhaul, with Mario Hezonja among the players who could depart. The report comes after Madrid reached the EuroLeague final but had a disappointing domestic campaign, losing to Tenerife in the Spanish league quarterfinals.
The club has already undergone a major shakeup off the court. On Friday, sporting director and club legend Sergio Rodriguez left his post, and another club icon, Rudy Fernandez, is expected to replace him. Marca says Madrid is also treating David Kramer, Chuma Okeke and Trey Lyles as likely departures, while Lyles has also been linked with Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Hezonja’s situation is the most notable, according to the report. The 31-year-old Croatian forward, who stands 2.06 meters tall, is under contract through 2029, but only has an NBA exit clause. Even so, Marca says there is a very high probability he is on his way out, and that Madrid is already searching for a replacement.
Hapoel Tel Aviv is said to be one of the teams interested in him, alongside Dubai. Hezonja has been one of the EuroLeague’s leading forwards in recent years, averaging 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season in the competition. In Spain’s regular season, he put up 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
