Zeljko Obradovic is close to returning to Panathinaikos, and Greek reports say his first major target could be Partizan forward Isaac Bonga. According to reporter Sotiris Vetakis, Panathinaikos has entered the race for the 26-year-old and is currently considered the frontrunner for him, as long as he does not land an NBA contract.
Bonga had recently been linked with the Detroit Pistons, but those reports have faded, opening the door for EuroLeague clubs to compete for him. He is still under contract with Partizan until 2027, yet Serbian reports near the end of the season already suggested his future there was uncertain, with several European giants following him.
Last season, Bonga became one of the EuroLeague’s most important forwards, averaging 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He played under Obradovic at Partizan, a connection that likely strengthens Panathinaikos’ interest as the club prepares for the coach’s arrival.
The Backdoor Podcast said Bonga is “one of Panathinaikos’ biggest targets in this window,” adding that he had already been linked with Olympiacos, but Panathinaikos is prepared to offer more and make a serious bid.
