Nof HaGalil, which has been relegated to Liga Alef, has asked the Israel Football Association to speed up handling of the case involving a player suspected of allegedly fixing matches. The club is acting while the broader investigation into the affair continues.
According to the report, the player’s detention was extended until Monday, after which he is expected to be released to house arrest. The special Lahav 433 unit, which deals with crime, illegal gambling and corruption in football, is in direct contact with the association and will transfer all case materials once the investigation is completed.
A senior Nof HaGalil official said the club wants the matter dealt with before Toto Cup matches begin on July 30. “If the suspicion is proven and there is an indictment and a points deduction, we will stay in the league. There are precedents for this,” the official said.
In the coming days, police are expected to summon various people for questioning and testimony, including professional staff who were part of the player’s most recent season.
