Kyrie Irving Offers to Pay NFL Player's Fine for Pro-Palestinian Message
NBA star Kyrie Irving has publicly supported Houston Texans player Jalen Pitre, who was fined by the NFL for displaying a pro-Palestinian message. Pitre wrote the name of Hind Rajab, a Palestinian child killed in Gaza in 2024, under his eye during a game. The NFL fined Pitre $11,492 for violating uniform policy, which prohibits unsanctioned personal messages.
Irving announced on Twitter that he would cover Pitre's fine. Pitre himself stated that his actions were about raising awareness of the ongoing events and making people uncomfortable, emphasizing the importance of considering the feelings of those affected. He added that his motivation stemmed from his humanity, not a specific affiliation.
This is not Irving's first public stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Previously, he has attended press conferences wearing a keffiyeh, worn a necklace shaped like the land of Israel in Palestinian flag colors, and shared various statements related to the issue.
