Elite Israeli Unit Commander Details Hezbollah's Repeated Defeats in Lebanon

The operation, which targeted Hezbollah strongholds far from the border, involved innovative tactics against the Shiite organization's extensive subterranean network.

The Egoz unit's mission on the Ali Taher ridge followed a series of successful commando operations along the Litani, Saluki, and Beaufort areas. As the forwardmost force in the Beaufort sector, Egoz soldiers engaged in intense fighting for days against occupied underground facilities, ultimately destroying them. The unit proactively proposed the advance towards Ali Taher to senior command, with Lt. Col. M. noting the unpredictable nature of such operations, which often extended from one-night raids to multi-day engagements deep within Lebanese territory.

Operating in small, highly camouflaged teams, the soldiers employed guerrilla warfare tactics and intimate knowledge of the terrain. Despite facing anti-tank fire and explosive-laden drones launched from dozens of kilometers away, the troops secured full operational control over areas significantly larger than initially planned. The region was described as a massive Iranian-funded underground infrastructure project serving as Hezbollah's command and control center for the Nabatieh area, considered the organization's "nerve center."

Lt. Col. M. emphasized the daily operational learning curve, stating his soldiers had become "real survivalists" adept at distinguishing friendly drones by sound alone. He recounted close-quarters encounters with Hezbollah operatives, praising his soldiers' courage and determination under extreme heat and constant danger.
