Panel Discusses Election Polls, Judicial Reform, Venice Film Festival Controversy

Councilman Yaakov Weider emphasized voter turnout, stating that the left is highly motivated by anger, while the right lacks similar enthusiasm. He also addressed the religious working public, who he believes are angry with both religious and right-wing parties and may abstain from voting. Dr. Tal Elovitch offered a different perspective on the religious public, highlighting long-standing partnerships with the left and the need for state-sanctioned solutions for equal opportunities. Elovitch countered by pointing out that current lawmakers and ministers are part of the "council of wise men" and that the Knesset, led by Likud, approved the Trump plan, which includes a path to a Palestinian state. Weider recalled the second intifada following the Oslo Accords, arguing that Palestinian leaders are enemies.
The controversy over the film "Accidental Damage" at the Venice Film Festival also sparked debate. Elovitch criticized Israel's PR campaign for the film, questioning the justification for a Shin Bet investigation if the film's claims are entirely false. Weider accused the left of seeking self-blame instead of fighting enemies, while Izak condemned the filmmakers for disparaging IDF soldiers abroad. Yoeli drew a parallel to the Nazi film "The Eternal Jew" winning at Venice in 1941.
Finally, the panel touched upon the geopolitical situation in Saudi Arabia, with Yoeli suggesting that the Houthis have weakened the Saudis and that Iran is encircling them, implying that money cannot buy a capable military. Elovitch pointed to Western weakness in the region, while Weider urged against focusing solely on enemy strengths.
