Netanyahu Defends Israel Amid Global Criticism at Christian Fallen Memorial

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at a cornerstone-laying ceremony for a memorial to Christian Arabic-speaking fallen soldiers in the Lavi Forest near Golani Junction, addressed what he called a "global attack" on Israel and the IDF. He specifically referenced the controversy surrounding the film "Nez'a" (which translates to "Harassment" or "Bullying"), stating that Israel is being falsely portrayed as persecuting minorities.

Netanyahu asserted that Israel is an "island of progress and tolerance" in the Middle East, a region he described as lacking compassion and rife with hostility. He highlighted that Christians in Israel are not only protected but also actively defend the country. He contrasted Israel's treatment of its Christian population with their situation elsewhere in the region, where he claimed they are persecuted, forced to emigrate, or slaughtered.

"We are not only protecting Christians; Christians are protecting us! All together," Netanyahu declared, emphasizing the shared defense efforts. He also mentioned the recent intervention to save Druze citizens from a massacre, underscoring Israel's commitment to protecting all its communities. The ceremony, attended by his wife Sara Netanyahu, aimed to counter what he termed the "big lie" being propagated internationally about Israel's conduct.
