Foreign Minister Pushes 12 Ambassador Appointments Amid Election Campaign

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has decided to bring 12 ambassadorial appointments abroad for approval by the ministry's appointments committee, despite the ongoing election campaign. Most of these appointments are slated to begin their terms in the summer of 2027. While these are professional diplomatic appointments and not political ones, which are prohibited during elections, Foreign Ministry employees and senior officials expressed concern, stating, "It looks bad and smells like a snatch-and-grab before elections."

The appointments include ambassadors to India, Jordan, Canada, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Switzerland, Paraguay, Rwanda, Ghana, and Belarus, as well as a Consul General in Munich. The appointment for Delhi is immediate, scheduled for November 2026.
