National Security Minister Confronts Residents During Illegal Structure Demolitions in Negev

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited Bir Hadaj in the Negev on Wednesday to observe a large-scale enforcement operation targeting structures and businesses built without permits. His arrival coincided with tense verbal confrontations with local residents protesting the demolitions. Ben-Gvir asserted that the era of overlooking illegal construction offenses has ended.

The operation involved various enforcement agencies, including the Israel Police and the Land Authority Enforcement. During the evictions and demolitions, significant equipment used by the owners of the unauthorized sites was administratively confiscated.

During the operation, Minister Ben-Gvir delivered a strong address, outlining the government's policy on illegal construction. "The games are over, and the days of taking over private land, building illegally, establishing businesses, and doing as you please in the Negev are finished," he stated. He contrasted the current government's demolition of 10,000 homes with the previous government's demolition of only four homes, citing Mansour Abbas. "My policy is clear: the law is the same for everyone. We are restoring governance to the Negev with enforcement, determination, and without flinching. Those who break the law will face the enforcement authorities," he added.
