Maccabi Tel Aviv Fined $2,500 Over Player's Derby Goal Celebration

The Israeli Football League Management has imposed a fine of 10,000 shekels (approximately $2,500) on Maccabi Tel Aviv following a provocative goal celebration by winger Osher Davida during the recent Tel Aviv derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv. Davida celebrated his team's go-ahead goal by making a shooting gesture towards the opposing team's fans.

League chairman Erez Kalfon described the act as a "blatant provocation" that incited significant unrest in the stands and created a risk of escalation. In a stern letter to Maccabi Tel Aviv's CEO, Kalfon criticized Davida's behavior, especially given the sensitive nature of the derby match, and suggested the club deduct the fine amount directly from the player's salary.

In addition to the specific fine, Kalfon sent a general warning letter to all clubs in the top two leagues, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated and could lead to a reduction in incentive payments. He instructed club officials to ensure players celebrate only in front of their own fans and refrain from provoking opposing crowds.

Separately, Maccabi Tel Aviv officially unveiled its third and fourth kits for the 2026-27 season, designed by PUMA. The third kit features a white shirt with subtle yellow stripes, while the fourth kit is a bold gray design.
