Israeli Legal Aid Service Reports Over 150,000 Cases in 2025
The Israeli Ministry of Justice released its annual report on Wednesday, September 16, detailing the work of its Legal Aid Service for the year 2025. The service handled a total of 154,552 cases.
The majority of these cases, 61,517, involved civil matters and debt. Family law and personal status issues accounted for 54,786 cases, while 10,142 cases related to the National Insurance Institute.
Since October 7, 2023, the service has opened over 3,600 cases specifically for families of fallen soldiers, hostages, released captives, and soldiers killed during the war. Legal assistance in these instances covered issues such as benefits, banking, housing, insurance, guardianship, and the rights of minors.
In 2025, approximately 3,000 cases were also opened for Holocaust survivors and former anti-Nazi fighters. Additionally, following a legislative change, Israelis over 65 who have been victims of fraud or financial exploitation are now eligible for free legal aid regardless of their income.
