New Project Shares Rabbi Kook's Teachings in Memory of Fallen Officer

The "Hit'or'erut" (Awakening) organization has launched a new project to make the teachings of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook's "Orot Ha'Teshuvah" (Lights of Repentance) accessible to the public. The initiative is dedicated to the memory of Captain Daniel Maimon Tuaf, who fell in battle in the Gaza Strip on September 8, 2024, along with three of his soldiers. The project aims to spread these spiritual concepts throughout Israeli society, inspired by shared study sessions conducted by soldiers of the Shaked Battalion amidst the complex fighting in Gaza.

The project features three-minute videos that present a passage from "Orot Ha'Teshuvah" with a simple explanation connected to daily life, making the teachings understandable even for those unfamiliar with Rabbi Kook's philosophy. The twelfth video in the series features Rabbi Tal Shaulian, head of the Hesder Yeshiva in Holon. He discusses the importance of renewal and letting go of the past as a crucial step in the process of repentance (teshuvah).

Rabbi Shaulian explained that to truly repent, one must detach from past mistakes, noting that while belief in divine forgiveness exists, self-forgiveness can be a significant hurdle. "Who decided we have to live in the past? Everything renews itself every day," he stated, emphasizing that physical renewal mirrors spiritual potential. He encouraged embracing daily renewal, asserting that God listens and believes in individuals, desiring them to be free and start anew each day as an act of teshuvah.
