Netanyahu's UN Trip Diversion: Security Fears Shift Landing Site

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to arrive in New York next Wednesday for his address at the UN General Assembly on Thursday. Security officials have decided against landing the prime minister's plane, "Wing of Zion," at New York's JFK Airport this year due to concerns that Mayor Eric Adams might not permit the aircraft to remain on the ground for the duration of the visit. Alternative landing sites being considered include Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey or a nearby military airfield. Concurrently, the U.S. Secret Service will enhance security measures for Netanyahu, escorting him from his arrival to his departure.

Protests against the prime minister are anticipated outside his hotel and during his UN speech, alongside pro-Netanyahu demonstrations organized by the Jewish community. Adams, who has previously stated he would arrest Netanyahu but later retracted the remark, is reportedly encouraging people to protest against the prime minister, despite his de facto role as head of the New York Police Department. In Israel, preparations are also underway for potential walkouts by country representatives during Netanyahu's speech and other provocations.

Netanyahu is not expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, who will depart New York before Netanyahu's arrival. However, meetings with other world leaders may take place.
