Israel's Job Market Sees Highest Demand for Engineers, Sales Staff

New data from Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics reveals the most in-demand professions in the country's labor market between June and August 2026. Engineers led the list with an average of 11,161 monthly vacancies. Sales specialists followed closely with 10,785 openings, and waiters and bartenders ranked third, with an average of 8,795 available positions.

Despite the prominence of the high-tech sector, software developers were fourth, averaging 6,202 vacancies per month. The top ten also included kitchen and cleaning staff, truck and bus drivers, caregivers, cooks, construction workers, engineers and technicians, and security guards.

However, the demand for certain roles has decreased. Kitchen and cleaning staff saw the sharpest decline in vacancies, down 14% from the previous period. Telephone sales representatives experienced a 13% drop, and waiter and bartender positions decreased by 9%.

The high-tech industry also saw a slowdown, with software developer vacancies falling by 9% and engineer positions by 7%. Conversely, demand for network technicians surged by 20%. Caregiver positions increased by 5%, engineers and technicians by 4%, cooks by 3%, and drivers and sales workers by 2%.

Overall, Israel's job market experienced a slight decrease in total vacancies in August, falling from 146,133 in July to 142,949. The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, also declined from 3.1% to 2.8%.
