Negev Woman Sentenced to 7 Years for Fatal DUI Crash
A 44-year-old mother of eight from the Negev, Suraya Abu Arar, was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Beersheba Central Court on Tuesday. She was convicted of causing a horrific traffic accident last year near Beersheba that resulted in the deaths of 23-year-old Yab Abu Ksis and his fiancée, 28-year-old Shahaf Danino. In addition to the prison term, the court revoked Abu Arar's driver's license for 20 years and ordered her to pay 180,000 shekels in compensation to each victim's family. According to the indictment, Abu Arar crossed a solid white line while attempting to overtake other vehicles, leading to the crash. The victims' families protested the sentence outside the courthouse, shouting, "7 years? Is that the value of their lives?"
