Israel Approves Alexander Interchange to Connect Sharon Communities to Highway 6

Israel's National Council for Planning and Construction has approved a plan to establish the new Alexander Interchange and upgrade Highway 553, a project spearheaded by the Ministry of Transportation and promoted by the Cross-Israel Highway Company as part of the "Connecting Israel" initiative. The plan involves upgrading and extending Highway 553 to serve as a major regional east-west corridor and constructing the Alexander Interchange where Highways 6, 444, and 553 intersect.

The initiative aims to provide a direct, faster, and safer connection between communities in the Sharon region and the national road network. It is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion, particularly on Highways 2 and 4, and address the growing population and development needs of the area. The project also includes the development of accessibility and safety infrastructure, such as bicycle paths and sidewalks.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev stated that the project is part of a transportation revolution to advance infrastructure in rapidly growing areas. The Director-General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben Zaken, and the acting CEO of Cross-Israel Highway, Guy Leviyan, both welcomed the approval, emphasizing its critical role in promoting advanced and efficient connectivity for the Sharon region.
