Israel National Football Team Faces Defensive Crisis Amid Player Injuries
The Israeli national football team is grappling with a significant shortage of available central defenders ahead of upcoming Nations League matches. Coach Ran Ben Shimon's staff contacted Miguel Vítor, captain of Hapoel Be'er Sheva, to gauge his interest in joining the squad. However, Vítor indicated that bureaucratic matters in Portugal would likely prevent his participation, making his availability improbable.
The defensive crisis stems from the unavailability of several key players, including Or Bilorian, Itay Rotman, and Stav Lemkin. The team is particularly hopeful that Lemkin will recover in time to be fit for at least the final two matches against Ireland. Lemkin himself is undergoing treatment with the aim of being ready for these games.
In addition to the central defensive issues, Yarden Cohen's injury has prompted the coaching staff to consider calling up either Doron Leidner or Noam Ben Harush as backup for Roy Revivo. Meanwhile, Liel Abada, who recently sustained an injury playing for Charlotte, has informed the national team's medical staff that it is a minor issue and he will be fit to play. Abada is expected to return to the national team.
Assistant coach Gal Cohen and coach Ben Shimon recently visited the United States, where they gained further insight into the American league, its excellent facilities, and the strong support for Israeli players competing there.
