Ofer Winter Berates Party Members Over Conscription Law Debate

Ofer Winter, chairman of the "Am Israel" party, reportedly clashed with party members during a heated discussion regarding a proposed conscription law. According to political correspondent Michael Shemesh, Winter exclaimed, "I don't work for you," to his colleagues. The party, however, has denied the report of a stormy meeting.

The discussions reportedly centered on the extent of sanctions to be imposed on members of the Haredi community who do not enlist. Winter is said to have advocated for a more moderate approach compared to some other party members. Among those present at the reported discussion were Lior Deri, number six on the party's list, and other party officials.

"Am Israel" has issued a statement denying the incident, asserting, "The event did not happen and is not true. Am Israel's conscription plan will be revealed in the coming days."

Previously, the new party declared it would not join a government that does not pass a law ending draft evasion and obligating all young people to serve before its swearing-in. Winter has also stated that if the Haredi parties oppose this move, "they can stay out of the coalition."
