Israeli Muay Thai Athletes Win World Championship Gold Medals

President Isaac Herzog spoke with young Israeli athletes Shir Cohen and Maxim Bernis following their gold medal victories at the World Muay Thai Championship. The two athletes, along with their Israeli delegation teammates, competed in Kosovo this past weekend. Cohen secured the world championship title in the under-51 kg weight class, defeating an opponent from Vietnam in the final. Bernis won the gold medal and the world champion title in the under-71 kg weight class, knocking out his opponent from Kazakhstan in the first round.

President Herzog congratulated both athletes on their significant achievements, stating, "To receive a gold medal in the name of the State of Israel is a significant and important accomplishment." He praised their professionalism, determination, and pursuit of excellence, which led to the Israeli flag being raised and the national anthem being played twice during the competition. The President emphasized that their success brings immense national pride to Israel and inspires the entire Israeli public.

"I thank you for representing the State of Israel with honor and pride. May we only achieve success in sports and may it be a good and blessed year," Herzog told the athletes.
