Police Find New Recordings in Case Against Former Bar Association Head

Israeli police have reportedly discovered additional recordings related to former Bar Association head Efi Naveh, which they believe strengthen the case against him and former District Court President Eitan Orenstein. According to a report by Avishai Grinberg on i24NEWS's "The Central Edition," police feel there is sufficient evidence to indict both individuals in the "Naveh and Orenstein affair."

The case file will now be transferred to the State Prosecutor's Office and the Attorney General for a decision, with a key focus on the admissibility of the evidence. This represents the police's position, and no indictment decision has been made yet.

Naveh and Orenstein were initially detained for questioning on May 28, 2024, on suspicion of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. The investigation began approximately two months prior, following media reports.

At the time of their detention, current Bar Association head Amit Bacher stated, "There is no room for compromise in the fight for integrity. It is not for nothing that the Israel Bar Association has denounced improper norms of favors for appointments. This period is over, and we will continue to act with transparency and clean hands so that such behavior never happens again."

Former Minister Ayelet Shaked also provided an open testimony in July as part of the investigation, after police requested to take her statement. Earlier in May, i24NEWS reported that in April 2025, Lahav 433 investigators and Head of Investigations Boaz Balat sought to question Shaked under caution for suspected breach of trust, despite investigators acknowledging the statute of limitations had expired four years prior. The accompanying prosecution also supported questioning her under caution.
