French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Israel must stop its military actions in Lebanon and argued that the United States should pressure it to do so. In his words, “Israel must stop its hostilities in Lebanon, the United States should exert pressure on it.”
Barrot also said France is still working to organize an international conference aimed at providing support for the Lebanese army. He did not give a date for the proposed gathering or further details on its format.
The remarks place France alongside efforts to curb the fighting connected to Lebanon and underscore Paris’s continued push for an international backing mechanism for Lebanon’s armed forces.
