Arab Mediator Slams Likud's Bid to Disqualify Joint List
Dr. Ghazal Abu Raya, director of the National Center for Mediation, has condemned reports that the Likud party intends to petition the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the Joint List and the Unified List. Abu Raya stated that in a democratic system, racism and the parties and movements that promote it are what should be disqualified, not political lists representing Arab citizens.
He emphasized that democratic education is based on respecting all segments of society, political and cultural pluralism, and promoting values of equality, justice, and partnership. Abu Raya asserted that the Arab community and its political movements have consistently demonstrated a vision based on peace and equality among all sectors of Israeli society, coexistence, and respect for everyone's rights.
Abu Raya concluded by stressing that true democracy is measured by its respect for pluralism and citizens' rights, and its ability to confront racism while fostering partnership among all societal components.
