Tel Aviv Derby Showdown for League Lead First Time Since 2003
For the first time since 2003, the Tel Aviv derby between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv will be played with first place in the Israeli Premier League on the line. The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Monday evening at Bloomfield Stadium.
Maccabi Tel Aviv enters the game with a perfect record, having won all three of their opening matches, placing them atop the league standings. Their offense has been potent, highlighted by a recent 4-1 victory over Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
Hapoel Tel Aviv, meanwhile, sits in second place and boasts a formidable defense, having not conceded a single goal this season. Their strong defensive performance includes wins against Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Ramat Gan, and a scoreless draw with Hapoel Haifa. Coach Eliniv Barda is expected to field a consistent lineup.
The stadium is expected to be at full capacity, with 22,000 Maccabi fans and approximately 3,200 Hapoel supporters in attendance. Experienced referee David Foxman will officiate the match. Notably, Foxman also refereed the last derby where Hapoel Tel Aviv secured a historic win, ending a 12-year winless streak against Maccabi.
