Retired General Warns of Renewed Hezbollah Threat to Northern Israel

Retired Major General Yitzhak Brick is sounding an alarm regarding the security situation in northern Israel, asserting that the country has failed to significantly improve the safety of its northern communities despite ongoing conflict. He claims that approximately 100,000 reservists are currently inactive, and urges their return to service.

Brick argues that while Hezbollah's leadership was targeted, the organization was allowed to rebuild. He states that due to the erosion of the ground forces, the IDF is being compelled to withdraw from the "Yellow Line" in southern Lebanon, a move he believes will re-expose northern Israeli towns to constant threat.

According to Brick, recent years have seen successive IDF chiefs of staff reduce the ground forces by two-thirds. This has left insufficient reserve forces to replace troops who have been engaged in combat for three years. These depleted forces are spread thinly across various fronts, lack training, are worn out, and are no longer capable of bearing the operational burden.

Consequently, Brick predicts the IDF will have no choice but to pull back from the "Yellow Line" to the "Gray Line" in Lebanon. He warns that it is only a matter of time before this retreat extends to the "Black Line," which is Israel's northern border, leaving residents in a state of complete insecurity.

Brick has been advocating for years for an immediate increase in ground forces and the acquisition of advanced weaponry, including powerful lasers, over a million drones, and multi-barreled missile and anti-aircraft systems. He claims to have presented accurate reports predicting the current deterioration before the war, but his warnings were ignored, leading to the "disaster in the Gaza envelope." He asserts that a scenario he predicted is unfolding exactly as foreseen, yet it is not being heeded.

Furthermore, Brick criticizes the current political leadership, stating that none of the potential prime ministerial candidates are presenting a viable operational plan to address the nation's precarious situation. Instead, he claims, they are resorting to populist rhetoric to gain votes, which will prevent the country from reaching safety.
