NYT Coverage Biased Against Israel, New Study Claims

A new academic study alleges that The New York Times has systematically shown bias against Israel in its coverage of the Gaza war. The research, conducted by Professor Adiel Pinker from Yale School of Management, analyzed 1,559 articles published by the newspaper between October 7, 2023, and June 7, 2024.

Pinker's findings suggest the Times largely ignored Israeli casualties and Palestinian violence after the initial Hamas attack, while consistently highlighting Gazan suffering. The study claims the newspaper framed the conflict in a way that placed almost exclusive blame on Israel and minimized Hamas's role in the ongoing dispute.

According to the research, the Times' reporting focused on the October 7th attack and subsequent Israeli military actions and Palestinian casualties, while almost entirely omitting Israeli victims after October 7th, Hamas combatant deaths, and later Palestinian violence. Pinker asserts this reporting created a narrative where Israel is portrayed as the sole aggressor and Palestinians as passive victims.

The New York Times has rejected the study's conclusions, stating that their coverage has been exceptionally accurate and thorough, reporting on the conflict from all perspectives.
