Iran's Leadership Fractured Amidst Radical Influence, US Warns UAE Residents

High-level Israeli sources have confirmed significant rifts within Iran's leadership, following a New York Times report detailing severe internal conflicts. These sources assess that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, though alive, is physically and psychologically impaired. He is reportedly surrounded by radical commanders from the Basij and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), whose advice he heeds. These advisors, described as thinking in terms of the Iran-Iraq War and acting with extreme radicalism, are seen by the Israelis as leading Iran towards disaster.

The Iranian population is struggling, with the economy in freefall. Official inflation stands at 88%, but sources claim the real figure could be triple that. The dollar has reached 2.3 million rials, unemployment is rising, and oil exports have halted. Israeli officials believe the regime's collapse will be a process, not an event, and that this process is already underway, with significant internal opposition.

The recent conflict within the leadership reportedly stems from July attacks on three merchant ships, which occurred after agreements were reached with the United States. President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly shocked by the attacks and demanded explanations from IRGC Commander General Ahmadreza Pourdastan, calling the actions "reckless." Pourdastan claimed he did not authorize the attacks and was unaware of them, stating the Supreme National Security Council was also not informed.

An investigation by Iranian authorities and security forces allegedly identified Hossein Taeb, a religious figure and influential intelligence operative, as the decision-maker behind the ship attacks. Taeb, who opposed the peace deal with the U.S., reportedly convinced Mojtaba Khamenei that Iran erred in ending hostilities. Taeb recently took command of the Basij after previously heading IRGC intelligence for over two decades. He was dismissed in 2022 following security breaches but returned to power after Ali Khamenei's death on February 28, 2026, reportedly playing a key role in Mojtaba Khamenei's succession.

Amidst this turmoil, the U.S. Embassy in the United Arab Emirates issued a warning to American citizens, urging increased caution around facilities associated with Jewish and Israeli communities, including synagogues. The advisory, released ahead of holidays, recommended vigilance, situational awareness, and adherence to personal security measures. Americans were also advised to register with the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.
