Likud Slams Filmmaker on Eisenkot's List Over Gaza Documentary
The Likud party has launched a sharp attack against filmmaker Eliran Elya, who is ranked 33rd on the "Yash! Im Yisrael" list for the 26th Knesset led by Benny Gantz.
Elya, who also chairs the Directors Guild of Israel, is accused by Likud of backing the new documentary "NAZA" by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shore. Likud claims the directors guild's support for this film, following their previous work "No Other Land," constitutes an endorsement of content that slanders IDF soldiers and portrays them as war criminals.
The party used Elya's inclusion on Gantz's list to criticize the list's political makeup. Likud asserted that Elya's candidacy, alongside figures identified with the center, demonstrates the list includes candidates holding decidedly extreme left-wing views.
"NAZA," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, is an approximately 80-minute documentary produced by The Guardian and JW Films. It reportedly examines the decision-making process behind Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip and their impact on Palestinian civilians, allegedly drawing on anonymous testimonies from Israeli soldiers and intelligence personnel involved in the war. The film's official synopsis presents severe criticisms of Israel's policy in Gaza, sparking significant public and political debate in Israel even before its premiere.
