Sergi Roberto will not stay at Como, ending a two-year spell with the club coached by Cesc Fabregas. The former Barcelona player, who is married to Israeli model Coral Simanovich, earned about 2.2 million euros per season during his time there.
This season, the 34-year-old started only five matches and dealt with a serious injury. In Como's last four games of the season, he was used mainly as a substitute and saw only limited minutes. Since September, he started just twice, while occasionally wearing the captain's armband.
Roberto had been an important figure in a side that won promotion to Serie A and then helped secure qualification for the Champions League, even though his on-field role was much smaller than in his peak years. He also held substantial talks with Como over a contract extension, but those negotiations did not lead to a new deal.
At the moment, he has no firm destination, though Fiorentina, Juventus, and other clubs that often sign free agents could be options. In his farewell post, Roberto wrote that reaching the Champions League felt like a dream, that Como had become home, and that it would remain a special place because it has a very bright future.
