American officials revealed that Iran purchased high-resolution satellite imagery of a U.S. base in Jordan from Chinese entities prior to a July drone attack that killed three American soldiers. According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. has linked the satellite photos to the attack, marking the clearest evidence to date of Chinese support for Iran having lethal consequences for American forces. The officials did not identify the specific Chinese entities involved, nor did they claim direct Chinese government involvement. China's Foreign Ministry has accused "certain parties" of attempting to link Beijing to the conflict.

Iran reportedly acquired satellite imagery both before and after the July 17 attack.
