Singer Moshe Korsia said he experienced a humiliating encounter on Thursday while viewing another apartment for rent in Tel Aviv. He explained that the apartment itself was fine, but when he asked whether there was a Shabbat elevator, staff could not answer and sent him to the building manager.
According to Korsia, the manager reacted badly, making faces and questioning whether he intended to impose religious observance on the building. Korsia said he replied that he was not interested in what other residents did, only that he personally could not desecrate Shabbat because that is his belief. He later realized the building entrance was electric, and when he asked if there was any way to enter without violating Shabbat, he was told no.
He said the apartment owner then became angry because Korsia had not disclosed in advance that he was religious.
