Negev Alpaca Farm Offers Unique Weekend Getaway
An alpaca farm near Mitzpe Ramon in Israel's Negev desert provides a unique destination for weekend travelers. Visitors can interact with alpacas and llamas, learn about wool processing, and even enjoy a picnic in the desert accompanied by a llama.
The farm, established in 1987 by Ilan and Naama Dvir, was inspired by their travels in South America. Initially focused on wool production, it has since evolved into a popular tourist attraction, now housing approximately 250 animals, including goats, horses, donkeys, dogs, ducks, and a camel, in addition to the alpacas and llamas.
A special offering is the "Llama Picnic," where guests embark on a guided walk through the desert landscape with a llama carrying their belongings. This approximately 1.5-hour experience requires advance booking, and riding the llamas is prohibited.
Accommodation options include a guest house and yurts on the farm premises. Standard admission is 50 shekels for adults and 45 shekels for children. The farm is located about seven minutes from Mitzpe Ramon, and visitors are advised to check operating hours, especially around holidays.
