Holiday Feast Canceled in Thailand Amid Security Concerns

A holiday feast planned by the Chabad center in Phuket, Thailand, was canceled on Friday evening due to demands from local security officials. The cancellation came in response to a planned protest outside the venue.

Chabad informed registered guests that the event was off, warning them to stay away from the area due to the potential for violent demonstrators and the associated danger. "Please do not approach the area, the protesters can be violent and it is dangerous," the message stated.

Israeli tourists who were planning to attend expressed disappointment but acknowledged Chabad's efforts to deliver food packages to hotels, providing a holiday atmosphere. One traveler, Ori Luzon, noted that while Thai police were present near Chabad, access was restricted, and food was being distributed externally.

Despite the cancellation, Chabad stated that other holiday prayers and meals scheduled from Saturday onward would proceed as normal. Another tourist, Omri, mentioned receiving updates about a possible delay before the final cancellation, observing that the street near Chabad appeared quiet despite a prior demonstration.

The cancellation in Thailand occurs against a backdrop of heightened security alerts in Israel, with security forces preparing for potential developments during the holiday period. Concerns include missile launches from Iran and attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets abroad, though no immediate concrete threat has been identified.
