Dozens of Breslov Hasidim Arrested Trying to Leave for Ukraine
Approximately 70 out of 80 young Haredi men currently detained in military prisons are Breslov Hasidim, according to the "Hafkidti Shomrim" organization. Dozens of Haredi youths, classified as draft dodgers and deserters from the IDF, were arrested in recent days at Ben Gurion Airport as they attempted to leave Israel ahead of Rosh Hashanah prayers in Uman, Ukraine.
The "Hafkidti Shomrim" organization, which operates a legal aid hotline and system in Israel for youths refusing conscription, reported an urgent call for prayers for the release of those imprisoned. In parallel with its regular activities in Israel, the organization has expanded its services to Uman.
For Hasidim who managed to leave Israel and face arrest upon their return, a consultation center has been established in Ukraine. Breslov sources stated that lawyer Shlomo Haddad will hold individual guidance sessions on Monday at the Ashkenazi Klaus in Uman, aiming to provide legal assistance and prevent mass arrests at Ben Gurion Airport and border crossings after the holiday.
