Israeli Sports Year in Review: Titles, Medals, and NBA Star Deni Avdija

The Hebrew sports year תשפ"ו (2025-2026) was marked by significant achievements across various disciplines, including domestic league championships, cup victories, and notable international medals. Hapoel Be'er Sheva secured their sixth Israeli Premier League soccer title, while Maccabi Tel Aviv won the State Cup, defeating Be'er Sheva in the final. In the Toto Cup, Beitar Jerusalem emerged victorious. Maccabi Tel Aviv also dominated Israeli basketball, clinching their 58th league championship and 47th State Cup. Their EuroLeague journey saw them reach the quarterfinals, losing to Real Madrid.

Internationally, Israeli athletes earned medals in Olympic sports. Artem Dolgopiat won a gold medal in men's floor exercise at the European Gymnastics Championships for the third time. Raz Hershko secured gold in the over 78kg category at the European Judo Championships, and Yitzhak Aspiz won bronze in the under 60kg category. The Israeli marathon team won team gold at the European Championships for the third consecutive time, with Gashaw Ayele also taking individual bronze. The men's recurve archery team won gold at the European Championships, as did the mixed doubles pair of Roey Dror and Michaela Moshe.

The standout individual achievement belonged to NBA player Deni Avdija, who became the first Israeli selected to the NBA All-Star Game. Avdija, playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, also helped his team reach the playoffs, solidifying his status as an international star.
