Channel 14 Commentator Yaakov Bardugo Explains Move to Politics

Former Channel 14 commentator Yaakov Bardugo has explained his decision to leave his media career and enter politics, stating that after years of demanding accountability from decision-makers, it was time to hold himself accountable. Bardugo, who recently secured a spot on the Likud party's Knesset list, wrote in an article for "Olam Katan" that the upcoming elections are crucial for determining the nation's future identity, focusing on issues of Jewish identity, governance, the justice system, and opposition to a Palestinian state.

Bardugo revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally approached him, asking him to join the political arena rather than remain an outside commentator. While acknowledging Netanyahu's appeal, Bardugo emphasized that his decision was also driven by a sense of urgency regarding the internal struggles over Israel's character, contrasting this with the previous term's focus on external conflicts.

He articulated his political goal as achieving victory in the elections and forming a strong national government capable of effective rule, not just partial success. Bardugo also addressed political rivals, including Gadi Eisenkot, highlighting fundamental disagreements on core Israeli issues despite respecting Eisenkot's military service and personal sacrifices.

Bardugo cited his late mother's influence, who taught him the importance of civic engagement and taking responsibility. He concluded that after observing and commenting from the sidelines, he is now answering Prime Minister Netanyahu's call to enter the decision-making room.
