IDF Conducts Surprise Drill in West Bank Ahead of Holidays

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a surprise military exercise on Friday in the West Bank, designated as "Judea and Samaria" by the military, as part of its operational readiness for the upcoming holiday season. All battalions within the regional brigade were mobilized for the drill, aimed at enhancing troop training and operational fitness. The exercise, which was expected to conclude by the afternoon, involved significant movement of security forces throughout the area and tested troop alert levels and readiness for various surprise scenarios.

The IDF emphasized that the drill was pre-planned and that there was no immediate security concern. This exercise follows a broader surprise assessment earlier in the week, led by IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, which evaluated the military's preparedness for a complex, multi-front conflict. That assessment involved the surprise activation of all regional commands, directorates, and branches.

During the earlier assessment, forces practiced responses to a range of threats, including ground, air, and sea raids, missile attacks, mass casualty incidents, and hostage situations. The mobilization of reserves and special units was also tested, along with inter-force cooperation and decision-making processes. Lessons learned from both exercises are intended to improve defense and readiness for diverse scenarios.
