Police in Bnei Brak are investigating after a suspect on an electric scooter reportedly broke into three businesses overnight, prompting fresh concern among local shop owners about a rise in burglaries. One of the targets was the Beger clothing store on Jerusalem Street, which was broken into around 4:00 a.m. according to the report.
The article says at least two other businesses were hit using the same method during the night, including Photo Speed. Police have opened a probe and are trying to identify the burglar.
Business owners in the city said they are increasingly worried because, in the past, most break-ins happened on Shabbat nights when streets were relatively empty, but recently thieves have been operating during the week as well, at times when they are more likely to encounter pedestrians or security forces. The latest incident adds to a series of similar recent cases that have revived questions about nighttime security for shops in the city.
Separately, Kikar HaShabbat reported another troubling case involving the Kakun family, who say they were robbed during a recent weekend stay at a Bnei Brak hotel. They claim jewelry, a cellphone and about 5,000 shekels in cash meant for a bride and groom were stolen from their room, and say other guests also reported thefts. The family alleges the suspect knew the hotel and meal times well, and says that although a complaint was filed and a suspect was arrested, he was released and the case closed. Police said they are investigating the Bnei Brak break-ins and that responses from relevant parties will be published when received.
