Social Media Influencer Yakob Elizur Joins Fight Over Religious Education Funding
Social media personality Yakob Elizur, known for his right-wing commentary and satirical videos, has released a new video urging public awareness regarding the funding of the State Religious Education network (HIMAD). Elizur argues that left-wing organizations are challenging the current budgeting of HIMAD in the Supreme Court, claiming it constitutes discrimination due to perceived disparities in per-student funding.
In his video, Elizur contends that these criticisms overlook the fact that HIMAD students also receive religious studies, prayer times, and other services. He further explains that the widespread geographical distribution of HIMAD institutions increases operational costs. Elizur emphasized that HIMAD is a state-sanctioned educational stream, not an exclusive system, and that the pursuit of equality could inadvertently restrict parents' ability to choose an education aligned with their religious beliefs.
Elizur also highlighted approximately 30 million shekels allocated to HIMAD that are currently held up due to the ongoing legal proceedings. "If this ends with cuts to HIMAD budgets, those who will pay the price are the schools, the parents, the teachers, and above all, our children," he stated.
Concluding his appeal, Elizur called on his followers to share the video and elevate the issue, stating, "What's truly crazy here is that no one in our community is talking about this burning issue... Share, comment, talk about it, pass it to friends, because we must talk about it."
