Chef Assaf Granit Details Involvement in "MasterChef" Shake-ups

Chef Assaf Granit has spoken candidly about the recent changes on the reality cooking show "MasterChef," including the dismissal of fellow chef Moshik Roth. Granit clarified his relationship with Roth, stating they remain close friends and speak daily, dismissing reports of a reconciliation as a mischaracterization. While Granit acknowledged the network's desire to refresh the show's format, he emphasized that the decision regarding the chef lineup rests solely with Reshet 13.

Granit described his own deep involvement in "MasterChef," comparing his role to that of an owner in his restaurants, but ultimately deferring to the network's ownership and decision-making power. He referred to chef Yossi Shitrit's move to a rival show as a "favor" to them, but called Roth's dismissal an "aggressive replacement," while asserting that the current season is being produced to the best of their abilities.

He admitted to considering leaving the show if his input on Roth's firing was ignored, highlighting his decade-long commitment to "MasterChef" and the extensive production efforts involved. Granit revealed that Roth learned of his dismissal from his agent and was understandably upset and felt unfairly treated. Granit declined to comment on Roth's replacement, Yonatan Roshfeld, during filming.

Granit also noted the challenging circumstances under which the new season began, including the departure of the head editor, a new producer, and new ownership at Reshet 13. Surprisingly, Granit confirmed a conversation with Assaf Rappaport, a figure involved with the show's investors, regarding the situation after Roth's firing. Granit stated Rappaport is "very involved," comparable to his own business engagement, actively listening and offering his opinions and desires during a discussion that lasted over 20 minutes.
