Israel Expands Direct Flights to Italy With New Routes and Increased Frequency
In September 2026, Ben Gurion Airport announced an expansion of direct flights between Israel and Italy. Bluebird Airways is launching three weekly flights from Tel Aviv to Bologna and will add routes to Rome and Naples starting September 17. Concurrently, Wizz Air is increasing its flight frequency to Italy, adding more services to Venice, Catania, Rome, Milan, and Naples.
According to the Gulliver travel agency, by autumn and the Jewish holidays, at least 11 Italian cities will be accessible from Tel Aviv without layovers. These destinations include Verona, Bari, Palermo, and Cagliari. Existing Israeli carriers El Al, Arkia, and Israir will also continue to operate on these routes.
Data from the Israel Airports Authority indicates that the Italian route attracted approximately 640,000 Israeli passengers in the first seven months of 2026, representing 7.5% of the total passenger traffic at Ben Gurion Airport. Rome and Milan are the most popular destinations, followed by Catania, Verona, and Naples.
Experts note that the average round-trip ticket price for direct flights is around $350, though prices can fluctuate based on the specific route and travel dates.
