Youth Sentenced to 30 Months for Assaulting Two Children

A district court in Nazareth has sentenced a young man to 30 months in prison for sexually assaulting two young boys. The incidents occurred on the same day in March 2025, approximately 50 minutes apart. The defendant first approached a 7-year-old boy near a synagogue, lured him into a restroom, and committed severe acts against him before fleeing when the child alerted his father. Shortly after, he physically attacked another 8-year-old boy in a nearby street.

Judge Hana Sabag ruled that despite the different locations, the close timing and similarities meant the acts should be considered a single legal event. He emphasized the severity of the offenses, noting the profound impact on the children's autonomy and sense of security, as well as the long-lasting emotional consequences for the victims and their families.

However, the court considered several mitigating factors in its sentencing. The defendant's early confession, which spared the children the trauma of testifying, was taken into account. His lack of prior criminal record also influenced the decision. Additionally, the judge considered the defendant's personal and medical circumstances, including a diagnosis of a disability and judgment not commensurate with his age.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the defendant to pay 5,000 shekels in compensation to each victim and imposed suspended sentences to deter future offenses. The prison term begins from the date of his arrest.
