A criminal indictment was filed Thursday against Michael Cohen, a 55-year-old truck driver from Haifa, over the death of 81-year-old Gabi Kamin at a gas station near Nir Banim in southern Israel about two weeks ago. Prosecutors say Cohen is charged with negligent homicide and additional offenses.
According to the investigation by police from the Kiryat Malakhi station and road accident examiners, the dispute between the two men began inside the convenience store at the station, where Kamin worked. The argument later continued outside, and at some point Cohen got into his vehicle and started driving away while Kamin was standing near the truck and speaking with him.
The indictment says Cohen hit Kamin during the drive, causing critical injuries. Kamin was later pronounced dead at the scene. Magen David Adom paramedic Tzvi Zilberman said on the day of the incident, "We saw the pedestrian unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with very severe injuries to his body, after being hit by a truck. We gave him advanced medical treatment that included prolonged resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately we had no choice but to declare his death."
