Tesla Cuts Prices in China Amid Fierce Competition and Falling Sales

By תומר הדר

The story · English

Tesla has reduced prices on several models sold in China, marking the first official price cut since November 2024, according to reports from the country. The move comes as the electric vehicle manufacturer faces intense competition in the Chinese market, leading to a decline in its sales there.

The base version of the Tesla Model 3 now costs $33,160 in China, a reduction of $750. Additionally, Tesla is offering a $1,200 insurance subsidy for orders placed before September 30. The Tesla Model Y also saw a price decrease of approximately $1,500, bringing its price to about $37,700, though the long-range version's price remains unchanged.

These price adjustments follow a significant drop in Tesla's deliveries in China. The company delivered around 50,000 vehicles last month, a decrease of about 12% compared to August 2025. Year-to-date deliveries for the first eight months of the year stand at approximately 313,000 vehicles, down 13% from the same period last year.

Overall, the Chinese market for "green" vehicles, including plug-in hybrids and electric cars, is experiencing a downturn. In August, approximately 1.1 million "green" vehicles were delivered in China, a 10% decrease from August of the previous year. Year-to-date deliveries for these vehicles total 6.7 million, a 12% decline compared to the first eight months of 2025.
