Bedouin Development Authority Holds Meeting on "Settlement Path" Program in Mar'it

The Bedouin Development and Settlement Authority in the Negev held a meeting on Monday, September 7, 2026, in the Bedouin town of Mar'it, as part of its "Settlement Path" program. The meeting was attended by the Authority's Director-General Yuval Turgeman, Authority management, professionals, and representatives of families with land ownership claims in Mar'it.

The program's professional team presented the benefits and compensation offered by the "Settlement Path" initiative and answered participants' questions. While residents sought direct information, some attendees expressed reservations and distrust towards the Authority. Tensions were also noted among different families.

The Authority stated that these meetings are part of a series aimed at fostering direct dialogue, removing obstacles, and providing comprehensive information to residents. The "Settlement Path" program is currently in the application phase, with a deadline of the end of November 2026 to apply for participation. Successful applicants can then move to negotiations to reach a settlement agreement and regulate land ownership claims.

Director-General Turgeman emphasized the importance of direct engagement, stating, "We consider direct engagement with residents a fundamental part of this process. It is important for us to reach the towns, sit face-to-face with the families, listen to questions, concerns, and objections, and present the program as it is." He added that the Authority will continue to provide information to families wishing to make informed decisions.

The Authority reiterated that the meetings aim to facilitate direct discussion, address concerns, and provide accurate information to residents. The "Settlement Path" program is currently accepting applications until the end of November 2026, after which participants can enter negotiations for land claim settlements.
