Combat Diamonds Initiative Urges Israelis to Call Friends on Suicide Prevention Day
Ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, the 'Combat Diamonds' forum and 'Diamonds for Life' association are launching a life-saving initiative to encourage proactive engagement with those struggling. Under the slogan 'In combat, we don't leave wounded soldiers behind, so why at home?', the organizations are urging the public not to wait for people to disappear before acting.
The campaign's core message is simple: don't just send a heart emoji or a quick "What's up bro?" text. Organizers implore every citizen to think of one acquaintance they haven't spoken to in a while, someone who seems distant, or someone who claims to be fine but gives off a sense that something is wrong, and to simply call them. The goal is to ask, listen, and be present for them.
To support this effort, a dedicated assistance mechanism has been established. If a call to a soldier goes unanswered or raises concerns about their well-being, details can be submitted via a form on the association's social media stories and highlights. In cases of immediate danger, the campaign emphasizes the importance of quickly contacting emergency services, specifically mentioning the ERAN hotline (dial 2201*), NATAL (dial 3362*), or SAHAR association.
"We are not asking you to be therapists," explain the 'Combat Diamonds' forum. "We are asking you to be a community that doesn't wait for someone to disappear to ask where they are. Every conversation connects another person to a community that sees them, because no diamond is lost."
